Ty Masterson
Candidate for Governor of Kansas
Ty Masterson is president of the Kansas Senate. He has represented Kansas’ 16th district since 2009 and is currently the Republican nominee for governor in the 2026 Kansas gubernatorial election.
Much of Masterson’s political career is defined by his advocacy for anti-LGBTQ+ policies, particularly those targeting transgender people and youth. He supported Kansas Senate Bill 244, which restricts public bathroom use based on sex assigned at birth. He also backed bans on gender-affirming medical care and pushed for restrictions on how public schools can discuss sexual orientation and gender identity. During a news conference outlining the Kansas GOP’s agenda, Masterson decried what he called a “sexualized, woke agenda” in public schools.
Now, as he campaigns for governor, Masterson is doubling down on his efforts to target transgender students. He is demanding a “full investigation” of the Kansas City school district, alleging that district officials are “scheming to hide student gender transitions from parents.” He also threatened educators who refuse to betray the trust of students who confide in them, saying those educators “will be gone as soon as I’m governor.”
Critics warn that Masterson’s focus on targeting transgender youth could have devastating consequences for already vulnerable children. Forcing teachers to “out” students to their parents could put students at risk and undermine the trust that is essential for young people to seek support from the adults around them.
Masterson has explicitly connected his political agenda to his Christian faith. Speaking at a gathering with the Kansas chapter of City Elders, a far-right Christian nationalist group, he said that his faith is the reason he does what he does. City Elders is a group that describes itself as a “national network of elders charged with the mission of governing the gates of every city in America to establish the kingdom of God with strength, honor, and courage.”
Masterson has used his political platform to target some of the most vulnerable in Kansas, and his campaign for governor has made clear that he intends to continue down that path if elected. He claims that his Christian faith guides his actions, but targeting LGBTQ+ people—particularly vulnerable trans youth—stands in stark contrast to Jesus’ call to love our neighbors and care for those who are most vulnerable.
Ty Masterson is a 2026 False Prophet.
