More recently, Barr has drawn controversy for the rhetoric and messaging surrounding his Senate campaign. In his bid for an endorsement from Donald Trump—which eventually came in May—Barr leaned heavily into white Christian nationalist themes, releasing campaign ads targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

In one of those ads, Barr stands in a field in front of a barn decorated with a large American flag and declares that DEI actually stands for “dumb, evil, indoctrination.”

“It’s not a sin to be white, it’s not against the law to be male, and it shouldn’t be disqualifying to be a Christian,” he goes on to say.

The ad invokes the language of “woke liberals” twice, framing white Christian men as a group under attack. In doing so, Barr relies on racial grievance and resentment as a political tool. Over 12,000 Faithful America members petitioned State Farm to pull their funding for Barr's campaign due to this hateful, racist rhetoric. And this is not the first time he has used racially charged rhetoric on the campaign trail.

During his 2020 reelection campaign, Barr was similarly criticized for a campaign ad claiming that his opponent “promotes the mob’s lie that all police are racist.” The charge was particularly striking given that Barr was the incumbent and his opponent was himself a former police officer.

Barr’s record and rhetoric reveal a willingness to weaponize both faith and racial resentment for political gain. When Christianity is invoked to exclude, divide, and dehumanize rather than to embody love of neighbor, it bears little resemblance to the teachings of Jesus.

For his consistent willingness to weaponize faith and his intentional wielding of racist tropes, Andy Barr is a 2026 False Prophet.
