FALSE PROPHET

"Whether it's a real video, the threat is real, and that is what the president is talking about, that's what the president is focused on, is dealing with those real threats, and those are real no matter how you're looking at it."

As governor, Sanders continues to use her office to advance policies and rhetoric that blur the lines between government and her personal religious beliefs. In 2023, she unveiled Arkansas LEARNS, an education plan that allowed students to use public funds at private schools. Public school advocates and religious-liberty groups argued that the program could divert taxpayer money to private religious institutions. The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a frequent partner organization of Faithful America, criticized the plan, warning that the school voucher program would damage Arkansas’s public schools and describing Sanders’ views as “white Christian nationalist.”

That same year, Sanders faced criticism after featuring artwork of a large cross on the grounds of the Arkansas governor’s mansion. When groups called on her to remove the artwork in the name of religious liberty and pluralism in public government spaces, she responded:

“I will not now or ever hide that I am a Christian, saved by Christ. In Arkansas, we stand up to bullying liberals. We won’t let you power-wash our kids’ chalk drawings off our front steps. We won’t let you tear down Christmas decorations and stomp our traditions into the dirt.”

Sanders has also used the power of her office to promote explicitly Christian observances. In 2025, she issued a pronouncement officially recognizing December 25 as “Christmas Day” and requiring state offices to close on December 26 so that state employees could spend the day “giving thanks for Christ’s birth.”

In her 2026 Arkansas State of the State Address, Sanders once again invoked Christian nationalism, concluding her remarks by saying:

"If you hear nothing else, I say today, hear this: Jesus is our living hope for each of us, for our state, for our country. America was founded 250 years ago as one nation under God."

Again and again, Sanders has demonstrated a willingness to use the power and platform of public office to elevate her own religious beliefs while dismissing or demeaning other faiths. She presents herself as a defender of religious liberty, yet her record in Arkansas casts serious doubt on whether that principle extends to people who do not share her faith.
