Governor Greg Abbott, pseudo-historian David Barton, Representative Mayra Flores and Tyler Bishop Joseph Strickland are included on a list of 20 “False Prophets,” part of a new initiative to counter Christian nationalism’s distortion of the Gospel and its threat to democracy, equal rights and the church during the 2022 midterm season and beyond.

On October 28, 2022, Texans and national faith leaders discussed the dangers of Christian nationalism and the inclusion of Abbott, Barton, Flores and Strickland on the list of False Prophets.

A secondary list of False Prophet “Dishonorable Mentions” also includes Senator Ted Cruz, First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress, Attorney General Ken Paxton and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.
