FALSE PROPHET
Marjorie Taylor Greene
U.S. Representative, Georgia
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) might be the most extremist and openly Christian nationalist lawmaker in the country and would probably tell you so herself. Elected to Congress in 2020, she was one of the first QAnon supporters to hold public office, and now openly embraces the label of “proud Christian nationalist” -- even selling t-shirts emblazoned with the phrase and posing for a Trump-esque photo-op with a Bible and multiple wall crosses.
Greene has been a promoter of far-right, white-nationalist conferences, antisemitic conspiracy theories, and violence against Democrats, even going so far as employing a close associate of white nationalist Nick Fuentes. At a 2024 Trump campaign rally, Greene compared the ex-president to Jesus.
Green also began framing the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a Holy War, claiming that the Russians are protecting Christians from being targeted by Ukranians.
She has ties to extremist militia groups such as the Three Percenters, and in Facebook posts from 2018, claimed that the school mass shootings at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, and at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, were false flag operations (e.g., hoaxes to generate attention).
Greene’s Christian Nationalist Rhetoric
Said in 2022: “We need to be the party of nationalism and I’m a Christian, and I say it proudly, we should be Christian nationalists”
In a recent video, Greene stated: “If Christian nationalism is something to be scared of, they’re lying to you… So while the media is going to lie...and they’re probably going to call it domestic terrorism, I’m going to tell you right now they’re the liars, and if anybody is a domestic terrorist, it’s the radical left.”
Claims it’s “the godless left” who object to her embrace of Christian nationalism, despite multiple strong criticisms from fellow Christians
Posted a Facebook photo in 2022 of herself holding a gun next to images of Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib, writing: “We need strong conservative Christians to go on the offense against these socialists who want to rip our country apart.” in the caption.
Appearing on fellow False Prophet Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast, Greene claimed that January 6 rioters were “prisoners of war,” then pleaded with Christians to visit the jailed rioters: “If you’re a Christian, get up, get off your knees, depend on your faith of God…Being a Christian means walking the walk, and that means you need to show up in person.”
Named as an “Islamophobic Individual” by the Council of American-Islamic Relations for her repeated anti-Islamic rhetoric and conspiracy theories, including attempting to force Muslim members of Congress to retake their oaths of office on a Bible and claiming that “all, all, all Muslims” want to “take away [women’s] equal rights”
Consistently uses rhetoric that risks inciting political violence, including at a September 2022 Trump rally, falsely claiming: “I am not going to mince words with you all. Democrats want Republicans dead, and they have already started the killings.”
Greene’s Christian Nationalist Policy Positions
Co-sponsored anti-LGBTQ legislation to ban US embassies from flying pride flags and to criminalize giving transgender youth gender-affirming care as a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Opposed the Equality Act, stating: “God created us male and female. In his image, he created us. The Equality Act that we are to vote on this week destroys God’s creation.”
Has compared COVID-19 mask mandates to the Holocaust
Spoke at an event organized by a white nationalist where the crowd chanted “Putin!” after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
Voted against the certification of the 2020 presidential election and filed for the impeachment of President Biden immediately after his swearing in for “abuse of power by enabling bribery and other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade, saying “I’m so happy. It’s a blessing. It’s a miracle,” then claimed the pro-abortion rights demonstrators were “domestic terrorist groups” and were going to “perform an insurrection right here at the Supreme Court.”
As of September 2022, holds a 100% score from fellow False Prophet Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council (designated an anti-LGBTQ “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center) for opposing voting rights, LGBTQ equality, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization, among other bills.
Has supported similar stolen-election conspiracy theories and lies as spread by fellow False Prophets and Christian-nationalist movement leaders Rev. Franklin Graham, General Michael Flynn, Bishop Joseph Strickland, strategist Steve Bannon, and Pastor Tony Perkins.
